James Dunn, Superintendent of Public Works Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKSThe Department of Public Works is responsible for the care and maintenance of Village streets, public spaces and buildings, and infrastructure. This includes storm and sanitary sewers, roads, parking lots, streetlights and traffic control signals. Sanitation and recycling services are also provided for. Snow plowing, ice control, street sweeping and leaf pickup are performed. The Public Works Garage on Stanley Avenue houses all Village equipment as well as the mechanical maintenance shop, salt storage dome, and gasoline and diesel fueling station. There are currently 24 employees in the Public Works/Parks Departments SANITATION/RECYCLING Household trash is collected twice each week, either on Mondays and Thursdays or on Tuesdays and Fridays. Recycling is collected every Wednesday. Large Rubbish Items such as furniture, rugs, mattresses are collected with the second pickup, either Thursday or Friday, depending on your route. Bulk metal items are collected on Wednesdays by appointment. Call 693-5506 to put items like refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, bicycles or any large metal item on the list. Television sets and computer monitors are picked up separately with your second pickup. Yard waste is picked up separately if tied and bundled, or placed in paper bags or trash pails. STREET MAINTENANCE The Department of Public Works is responsible for the repair, maintenance and snow removal on 24 miles of public streets. This also includes the planting, care and removal of trees within the street right-of-way. The Village provides snow removal only under contract on State roads (Broadway) and County Roads (Ashford Ave). Except for repairing damage caused by Village trees, the adjacent property owner is responsible to keep the sidewalk areas in a safe and litter free condition, including snow and ice control. |
