Topics: State of Emergency Lifted in Dobbs Ferry ... and a Few Other Post Irene Issues to Report
Please note that effective 11:59 PM Sunday, August 28th, the State of Emergency in Dobbs Ferry will be lifted.
The village's public safety and emergency response staff has been and will continue to remain in contact with the State and County Emergency Management Operations, and neighboring villages now coordinating help to residents in need; the highest priority has been to protect human life and keep residents safe, then identify the problem areas (like clearing roads and restoring power to those without it), and then final clean-up and restoration work.
The Village appreciates the leadership and efforts of Chief Gelardi and all the Officers of the Police Department for their work throughout the past 24+ hours, helping to keep everyone safe; also to Chief Trezza, Assistant Chiefs, and all the Volunteer Members of the Fire Department who were stationed at the fire houses on call throughout the night to respond to any emergency issues; as well to all the members of the Volunteer Ambulance Corps who were available for any emergency medical needs that might have been required. We also thank all the workers of the DPW/Highway and Parks Departments who started early this morning to clear the roads and will continue to clean-up the mess made by Irene … these departments will remain very busy over the coming days.
The Village is also grateful to all of the residents for their patience and cooperation, who stayed inside during the storm and aftermath to help keep them and their families out of harms way – which helps to keep our emergency responders safe too. It made a difference … Thank you everyone.
There are some remaining Issues and Situations:
Some Residents in Dobbs Ferry Are Without Power
Dobbs Ferry fared far better then most municipalities in Westchester and Putnam County, however there are still residents in the village without power tonight - this includes the areas of Ogden Avenue, Walden Woods, Hunters Run, Beacon Hill, Summit Terrace, Briary, Brookside, Shady Lane, and Cricket Lane. If you have not contacted the Police (693-5500) or Con Edison (800-752-6633) please do so immediately. Con Edison was not able to send-out road or tree clearing crews until the high winds had subsided (>39MPH) later this afternoon. In some areas Con Edison has taken action to cut power, allowing clearing crews to then move into the effected area, at which point power will then be restored. The Village has not yet been advised exactly when Con Edison's clearing crews will arrive at all locations, or when power will be completely restored. Please know that the Police and Staff are doing all they can within the overall County Emergency Management Operations to stay on top of this issue as a priority; if you have any issues or need to report anything or get an update, please call the Police number provided.
Waterfront Parking Lot has been Re-Opened
The waterfront parking lot passed the 'high water test' at peak high tide this evening (the lot was completely underwater earlier this morning during the storm surge); as such, the lot as been re-opened. Commuter and other permit pass holders will have full access to the lot tomorrow morning; however, at this writing Metro North Train Service is still suspended as track work and clean-up is still ongoing. The Village does not have any information on tomorrow's commuting schedule.
Hopefully our residents without power will be back to normal soon - and we will keep everyone posted as best as possible and as new information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Hartley S. Connett
Mayor, Village of Dobbs Ferry
