Motorcycle Unit

Re-established in 2005, after an absence of more than 40 years, the Division’s Motorcycle Unit is a multi-purpose unit trained to assist in special situations. These officers are trained in every aspect of traffic safety enforcement. Radar and Laser enforcement, and D.W.I. enforcement. The motorcycles have been used to escort parades, funeral and special events, policing large crowds or high traffic- volume areas. High traffic areas can make it difficult to position a patrol car. Motorcycles, however, can be more effective at these locations due to the ease with which they can be positioned. Motorcycles can also assimilate into traffic for enforcement purposes easier than conventional patrol vehicles.

The Motorcycle unit’s is comprised of 6 police officers and two Harley-Davidsons.  The motorcycles are a great public relations asset. They are  highly visible and approachable, and never fail to bring officers into close contact with the public.
