Dobbs Ferry High School
School Procedures
There are many ways to stay informed! Watch for The Current, the PTSA’s bi-monthly newsletter, as well as the District’s newsletter and the Principals’ newsletters. Check out Channel 75, and the District’s website - http://www.dfsd.org. The website includes easy links to the PTSA and school’s websites.
Absence
A telephone call to the school nurse or attendance office is necessary on the first day of absence if due to illness. A signed note from the parent containing the reason for absence and the doctor’s name, if one was called, will be the admission slip back to school. Please call the nurse or attendance clerk for the Middle and High Schools at 674-1742 by 8:00 AM, or for Springhurst at 693-1505 between 8:00 and 8:30 AM on the first day of absence.
Emergency school closings
Although we hope that emergency procedures are seldom utilized, it is important that we have clear procedures when it is necessary to close school, delay the opening of school, or end school earlier than planned.
1.) In a weather related delayed opening, or early dismissal, there are a number of options available to be informed:
A. Listen to WFAS 1230 AM, or News 12 Westchester
B. Call 693-1500, extension 7. This is the district’s main number. Do not call individual schools!
C. Sign up for the district’s email notification list. Send your email address to boe@dfsd.org. They will send you an email informing you of any changes in the school day.
D. Check the District's website - www.dobbsferry.k12.ny.us/ They will post a message explaining any delays or closings.
2.) In an emergency, a phone chain for grades K-6 will be activated. Class or grade coordinators will call each home to inform you of the emergency, and the action that needs to be taken. If you wish to be called at work, you should contact your child’s class coordinator. Please be sure that your family keeps the class coordinator informed of any changes to your address, phone numbers, etc. The superintendent will release students in grades 7-12 from school when appropriate. Please be sure your family has a neighbor or friend that your child can go to if you are not home. The safety of all our children is our first priority. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call.
NATIONAL PTA'S MEMBERS ONLY SITE
The National PTA website is filled with valuable information and resources for parents and educators. The main page is www.pta.org. However, if you'd like access to the "Members Only" Section of the National PTA's website, you need to register in order to receive a username and password. It's simple, and takes only a few minutes.
Go to www.pta.org/members. Our National Unit ID is 030430. Take a minute to fill our the survey -- it will customize the information you can receive from National via email notification.
Finally, remember to save your username and password to your computer's "password list" so you won't need to enter the information each time.
