James Taylor is the driver. Dennis Wilson is the mechanic. The live only to race and maintain their '55 Chevy. Heading east from California with no particular agenda, they encounter an overbearing GTO driver (Warren Oates) who agrees to race them, each putting at stake their most prized possession: their car.
