On May 20th, 2021, at approximately 1:26 PM, this agency received a radio message from a Dobbs Ferry Police Sergeant who transmitted an “Officer Needs Assistance” call.  The Sergeant advised he had been assaulted by a male possibly wielding a knife.

The Sergeant, who had been assisting Con Edison with a traffic detail on Beacon Hill Drive, was able to provide a description of the assailant to responding Officers.

A search of the surrounding area was conducted and the suspect was located and arrested shortly thereafter.  Dobbs Ferry Officers were assisted by construction workers that had been assigned to the worksite.

Local area Police Departments were requested for mutual aid and the following agencies responded: Westchester County Department of Public Safety, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Greenburgh Police Department, Irvington Police Department, Ardsley Police Department, Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department, along with members of the Greenburgh Drug Task Force.    

At this time, the assault appears to be unprovoked and there is no current threat to public safety.    
 
Matthew V. Burke, a 36 year old male resident of Dobbs Ferry, NY was arrested and charged with the following Penal Law Offenses:
 
Attempted Murder 1st of a Police Officer, A Felony
Attempted Murder 2nd, A Felony
Attempted Aggravated Assault upon a Police Officer, B Felony
Criminal Possession of a Weapon Third, D Felony
 
Matthew V. Burke was arraigned and remanded to Westchester County Jail pending his next court appearance
