Parent’s Responsibilities

The Police Departments would like to remind parents who are aware of underage drinking parties of their obligation to notify authorities.  Parents have a responsibility to keep their children safe.  By failing to report underage drinking, parents are endangering the welfare of their children and the children of others.  The tragedy is repeated all too often.  Underage drinking occurs with a parent’s knowledge and a death results.  When questioned by the police, the parent’s reason for failing to take action and failing to report the party was either a belief that the drinking was harmless or a fear that their child would discover their disclosure and be angry or embarrassed.  Parents must put the safety of our children first.  As always, community cooperation and involvement is essential for effective police action.
