Reasons why the Task Force is Necessary

Underage drinking and drug use is a leading factor in the death of people under the age of 21.  It has been responsible for several deaths in Westchester County and creates a significant risk to our communities.  The sale and trafficking of illegal drugs within our communities is also a significant concern.  It makes our streets dangerous, places our children’s future at risk and diminishes every resident’s quality of life.

Current trends reveal that children are traveling across jurisdictional lines to purchase alcohol and inversely drug dealers are delivering marijuana and controlled substances throughout the Town.    Local offenders are often familiar with the personnel of their local police departments, which hampers undercover operations by that local department.  Drug traffickers often move between jurisdictions, which creates jurisdictional difficulties for the local department. The Task Force allows the pooling and sharing of personnel, equipment and intelligence resulting in more cohesive investigations.

The need for intelligence sharing and more cohesive investigations between departments is more important than ever with the latest spikes in Heroin use and the alarming number of overdoses among our youth.
